Goals and macros
A target that follows the day you actually had.
A fixed daily calorie number assumes every day is the same. Most people's are not. Emira supports both: a fixed target when you want a constant, and a dynamic one derived from what you actually burned when you do not.
How the dynamic goal is calculated.
It is deliberately simple arithmetic, and it is visible rather than hidden behind a recommendation engine.
- Energy burned
Read from Health Connect for that day, not predicted from a formula.
- minus your deficit
A number you set once. It is the only lever, and it stays where you put it.
- = today's target
Which moves with the day. A long walk raises it; a quiet day lowers it. Nothing is recalculated behind your back.
Macros are yours to set
Onboarding proposes a split, and then it is editable for good, not as a one-time setup step you can never revisit. Reference bodies publish ranges rather than single targets for exactly this reason, and a tool that pretends otherwise is claiming a precision that the underlying guidance does not have.
If you want the background on what those numbers actually describe, the blog has an informational piece on what macronutrients are and one on what a calorie deficit is, both with sources.

Streaks that do not punish an ordinary life.
Most streak systems break the moment you miss once, which teaches people to stop opening the app rather than to keep logging.
A missed day is grey, not a failure
One untracked day does not end anything. Two consecutive fully untracked days do. The line sits where it reflects an actual break in the habit.
Progress scales with the deficit, not with obedience
Stars accumulate with the deficit you actually achieved. Missing a macro target does not remove them; the system measures what happened, it does not grade you.
Questions people ask
- What is a dynamic calorie goal?
- A daily target derived from what you actually burned that day, read from Health Connect, minus your chosen deficit. A day with a long walk gives you a higher target than a day at a desk, without you changing anything. How Health Connect is used
- Do I have to use Health Connect?
- No. A fixed daily target works exactly as you would expect, and it is the default. The dynamic goal is there for people whose days differ a lot from each other.
- Which nutrients can I track?
- Calories, protein, carbohydrate and fat as standard, plus sugar, fibre, caffeine and water if you want them. You choose what appears on your daily screen; the rest is still recorded and stays available in the history. What the history does with them
- Does Emira track my weight?
- No. Emira reads body weight from Health Connect if you have it there, and never writes a weight history of its own. Weight tracking is not what this app is for.Why that is a deliberate no
